Wally Vernon, Chairman
Your local History Society congratulates the London Colney News Team on their 25th anniversary.
The History Society itself is now in its twelfth year. Since its inception in 1997 the archives have grown from just two filing cabinets situated in the Library, into two rooms which have been generously loaned to us by Mr Barry Lloyd of Langleys Estate Agents in the village.
We have members countrywide and produce our magazine ‘THE RECORD’ twice yearly. Last year we produced a 2009 calendar showing pictures of past London Colney and this year a 2010 version has been produced. Our Annual Exhibition was held in September at the Caledon Community Centre and topics featured were farms, sports teams, local clubs, Napsbury Hospital and many other photographs and items of interest were on display. The Exhibition was made possible with a most welcome grant from the Parish Council and the Event was very well supported with visitors from far and wide, which made all the hard work that goes into the preparation worthwhile.
We hold a Social Evening in November which usually takes the shape of a buffet/dance.
The Local History Society needs some younger members with computer skills who have an interest in local history who would be able to learn more about the village by inputting our archive files. If anyone is able to help, would like to purchase a calendar or has any old photographs we could copy (these being the lifeblood of our Society) please get in touch with me on 01727 822313.
